VITA provides free income tax preparation for low-income individuals and families. Due to COVID 19 restrictions the local VITA sites will be remote or drop-off sites. This will provide service with limited contact and social distancing.
The process includes two short appointments. At the first appointment you will drop-off your in-take forms, all supporting documents like W-2’s and 1099 forms and present Social Security Cards for all taxpayers and dependents. A photo ID is also required. At the second appointment you will get your completed tax return to review before e-filing. Expect this process to take 2-3 weeks.

Shawano – Covantage Credit Union, 715-524-8200 ext. 3226. Appointments will be held at the Richmond Town Hall.
Shawano County Human Services will also be offering Homestead Credit Clinics remotely. To make an appointment call Heidi Russell at 715-526-4686. This program is for people who qualify for Homestead Credit, but are not required to file a WI income tax return.
Or do it yourself with Myfreetaxes.com. This on-line tax preparation program is free to everyone. (No restrictions based on income, age, or geography.) You will need an email address. The site does offer a help line to answer questions.
