Community support is vital to any nonprofit organization. This means not just fiscally, but in donated time and work as well! If you are interested in giving back to your community some of your time, then here is a compiled list of volunteer opportunities available to you in the Shawano Area! Don't see what you're looking for below? Fill out the form at the bottom of the page and we'll try to get you in touch with the right opportunities for you!

United Way Volunteer Opportunities

Join us on the first Tuesday of each month from 4:00-6:00 PM to help with Diaper Distributions at the First Presbyterian Church on Main St. in Shawano. This event runs best with 4-8 volunteers, and you can sign up for one night or several.

We also offer infrequent diaper packaging sessions where we remove donated and purchased diapers from boxes and repackage them for distribution. These events generally last 2-3 hours and are flexible on time.

If you're interested in volunteering for either of these, please email Elaine Krohn at: elaine.unitedwayofshawanocounty@gmail.com

People with basic taxes often find tax filling overwhelming and need help.  VITA - Volunteer Income Tax Assistance - prepares and e-files tax returns for individuals and families with a household income under $67,000.

Volunteers are needed to prepare basic returns.  The tax software guides you through the process.  Training is available.  Hours are flexible to work around your schedule.  Preparers are required to pass the IRS on-line test.

Don't feel ready to do returns?  Volunteer greeters are also needed.  Greeters welcome people to the tax site, assist them in filling out an intake questionnaire and help to organize the documents needed for their tax preparation.  VITA tax sites are located in Shawano, Gillett, Pulaski and Keshena.  Contact Linda Olson at 715-201-9712 to get started or for more information or email us at unitedwayofshawanocounty@gmail.com!

* Tutors and students meet once a week for 1.5 hrs - either in person or virtually

* All materials for tutors and are provided

* Tutors need to have a basic working knowledge of computers and be comfortable with texting and email
