Resources

Our United Way manages a few local resources and guides. We can also help direct you to some statewide programs. These guides are intended to be useful to those looking for help or for those serving others in need.

Local Resources

In 2020, we began managing the Local Community Resource Guide. This guide has continued to grow and is utilized by many providers all throughout Shawano and Menominee Counties. It is categorized based on need and we update it twice a year. Over 85 programs are now listed and it is one of the most comprehensive guides in our area.

In 2025, we added the Food Resources page and guide to our website. This page provides specific ideas for how to help with food insecurity including recipe cards for easy, cheap, and nutritious meals, some of the most useful donations for food pantries, and a comprehensive list of food pantries and other resources in Shawano and Menominee Counties put together in partnership with the Shawano-Menominee County Health Department.

Statewide Resources and Data

If you don't have access to the Local Community Resource Guide, you can always call 211. This three digit number connects you to a live person here in Wisconsin, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. This person will listen to you as you describe the nature of your problem and what you're looking for and will then connect you to the best resources in our area to meet those needs. In 2026, a Leadership Shawano County team has undertaken the task of helping update the 211 database for our service area.

211 also has an app available to download for free on most app stores and you can visit online to search the database at 211 Wisconsin. 211 also provides data broken down into the Social Determinants of Health for free at 211 SDoH Page.

Another great source of data is United Way of Wisconsin's ALICE Reports. ALICE stands for Asset Limited Income Constrained Employment and is a measurement of families who earn more than the federal poverty level but are still struggling to make ends meet. You can learn more at ALICE - United Way of Wisconsin.
