Local Students Receive Digital Access

On Friday November 21st, the Shawano Area United Way hosted our first Techquity WI event in partnership with NWTC - Shawano! 18 students who applied and qualified received no-cost, loaned laptops and were enrolled into a digital navigation support program through our partnership with United Way Fox Cities! Techquity WI is a statewide device access and navigation program, offered to eligible individuals through United Way Wisconsin and local United Way partners across Wisconsin.
One story that touched our hearts was from a Marketing student who graduated early from high school and is living on her own already. She says, “Getting this computer and participating in this program will be helpful to me because I will be able to budget other bills and not have to worry about how I will access my classes, especially before and after work throughout the week and weekends.”
United is the way we create digital access for all! More info about future events to come in the future.

About Techquity:

This project is being supported, in whole or in part, by federal award number CPFFN0201 awarded to United Way of Wisconsin through $16,459,684.90 of funds from the U.S. Department of the Treasury through the American Rescue Plan Act and the State of Wisconsin, acting by and through the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin.

The goal is to distribute 30,000 devices across Wisconsin by the end of 2026. Locally, we have set a small goal of 150 devices which we believe we will meet easily. United is the way we lift rural communities!
